Caga Tió (meaning "Pooping Log") is a whimsical Christmas tradition celebrated in Catalonia, Spain, and some parts of the Catalan-speaking regions. The tradition centers around a log decorated with a red hat, a painted face, and it's "lower half" covered with a seasonal blanket. Starting on December 8th, families "feed" the Caga Tió by placing it in a prominent spot in their homes and offering it food, fruit, and nuts in anticipation of the log "pooping out" Christmas gifts! On Christmas Eve, children gather around the Caga Tió, sing traditional songs, and use sticks to "beat" the log while demanding that it produce gifts. The children then remove the blanket to reveal small presents, candies, and treats, as if the Caga Tió had magically defecated gifts.
